01Why brushing alone is not enough
Even careful brushing misses some areas. Between the teeth and along the gum line, hard deposits and bacterial films form that neither brush nor floss can remove completely. That is exactly where decay and gum inflammation begin, usually long before anything hurts.
02What happens during a professional cleaning
Our prevention team removes soft and hard deposits with fine instruments and ultrasound, cleans the spaces between the teeth, polishes the surfaces smooth and finally applies fluoride protection. Stains from coffee, tea or smoking are often removed at the same time. Afterwards your teeth feel really smooth again.
03Prevention for children
With children it is all about trust. We show them in a playful way how to brush well, seal the chewing surfaces of the permanent molars if needed and follow how their teeth develop. That way, visiting the dentist becomes routine, not a source of fear.
04How often?
For most adults we recommend a professional cleaning once or twice a year, more often with gum disease, implants or fixed braces. We agree on the interval together with you.

Frequently asked questions
Does a professional cleaning hurt?
Usually not. Sensitive spots may twinge briefly. Just let us know and we will work extra gently there or apply a surface anaesthetic.
Is it covered by health insurance?
German statutory insurers usually do not cover it in full, but many contribute. Private and supplementary insurances often reimburse it. We are happy to advise you.
How long does the appointment take?
Allow about 45 to 60 minutes, depending on how much needs to be done.
This information does not replace a personal consultation. We will discuss together in the practice which treatment is right for you.
